FDR State Park Spotlights History in Georgia’s Largest State Park

 As the country prepares to mark America’s 250th birthday, the “We the People” campaign is spotlighting Franklin D. Roosevelt and F.D. Roosevelt State Park, the largest state park in Georgia.

Park officials said President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the park after spending time in the Warm Springs area while seeking relief as he battled polio.

In 1924, Roosevelt, the nation’s 32nd president, began spending significant time in Warm Springs, according to the report.

“For curative purposes for his polio. And during that time, he fell in love with this area. And he wanted to preserve this area, so he created this state park,” a park representative said.
