Georgia DOT Awards $579.5 Million in Contracts for September

 The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) awarded a total of 21 projects valued at approximately $218.4 million at the monthly State Transportation Board meeting held in September. Two additional projects were announced in a special letting held on September 26 valued at approximately $361 million for pavement reconstruction, rehabilitation and resurfacing for nearly 19 miles on the westside of I-285. Contracts were awarded to the lowest qualified bidders on October 3, 2025.

The largest single investment construction project included in the September 19 announcement, valued at approximately $133.9 million, proposes 3.624 miles of widening and reconstruction for new interchanges on State Route (SR) 316 beginning at Cedars Road and extending to Sugarloaf Parkway in Gwinnett County. This contract and seven other construction projects total approximately $161.9 million and represent 74 percent of the total funds awarded.

The largest resurfacing contract included in the September 19 announcement, valued at approximately $27 million, proposes 16.524 miles of milling, plant mix resurfacing and pavement markings upgrades on I-85/SR 403 beginning at SR 140 (Jimmy Carter Boulevard), and extending north of Old Peachtree Road overpass and beginning at Steve Reynolds Boulevard overpass and extending north of Old Peachtree Road in Gwinnett County. This contract and two other resurfacing projects total approximately $40.6 million and represent 18 percent of the total funds awarded.

The largest safety contract announced on September 19, valued at approximately $2.5 million, proposes LED lighting system upgrades on I-20/SR 402 beginning at Linkwood Road and extending to I-85/SR 403 in Fulton County. This contract and six other safety projects total approximately $10 million and represent 5 percent of the total funds awarded.

There are three bridge rehabilitation contracts from the September 19 announcement totaling approximately $6 million which represent the remaining 3 percent of the total funds awarded. The largest project is valued at approximately $2.5 million and includes rehabilitation across various locations in Clay, Decatur and Dougherty counties.

The total for the two pavement reconstruction contracts from the special September 26 announcement is valued at approximately $361 million. The first project, located in Fulton County, proposes pavement reconstruction, rehabilitation and resurfacing on I-285/SR 407 for 11.470 miles beginning at Roosevelt Highway and extending to Mt. Gilead Road; and beginning at Mt. Gilead Road and extending to M.L.K. Jr. Drive. This project is valued at approximately $205.8 million. 

The second project included in the September 26 announcement is in Cobb and Fulton counties and proposes pavement reconstruction for 6.727 miles on I-285/SR 407 beginning at US 78/US278/SR 8 (Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway) and extending to Paces Ferry Road. This project is valued at approximately $155.3 million.

The Award Announcement list for September (includes rejected and or deferred projects). Bids for Design-Bid-Build projects were received on September 19 and a special announcement on September 26, and contracts were awarded to the lowest qualified bidders on October 3, 2025.

The September awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2026, which began on July 1, 2025, to approximately $1.03 billion. This total includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build, and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2026 will conclude June 30, 2026.
