Harris County Chamber Mobilizes Resiliency and Recovery Initiative
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020
The Harris County Chamber of Commerce announces the formation of its Resiliency and Recovery Task Force led by top private, public, and non-profit organizations in the region. This task force, formed in April 2020, is deeply focused on serving as resource connectors for businesses, members, and non-members during the COVID-19 crisis. In close partnership with the Georgia Chamber, the Harris County Chamber created a task force to develop strategies, provide insights and bolster growth and sustainability of the New Georgia Economy, post COVID-19. The task force formed the following sub-committees to provide meaningful updates to you, your businesses, our community, and the region: Research and Data; Rehiring and Retraining, Resiliency, Small Business, and Recovery Advocacy.
The Task Force will be chaired by John Asbell, Georgia Power’s External Affairs executive. Asbell stated, “The Harris County Chamber of Commerce plays a key role in the community and region as an advocate for both quality of business and quality of life. Our COVID-19 task force is listening to business and industry to understand their needs during the pandemic and beyond. We ask for business leaders, chamber members and non-members, to engage in our member survey and reach out and share their solutions and ideas for helping business not only recover but also thrive”.
“While the economic effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic have hit every business in Harris County, the need for coordinating and developing plans that mitigate risk and create a solid foundation for our future economy must be met by a collaborative effort of all stakeholders,” said Charles Sweat, President and CEO of First Peoples Bank and the 2020 Chairman of the Board of the Harris County Chamber. “Working with our government partners, we are striving to meet the challenge through the work of this task force. We want Harris County to emerge from this an even better place to do business for years to come”.
President and CEO of Harris County Chamber of Commerce Kim Tharp said, “The mission of the Harris County Chamber of Commerce has always been "Be the Voice of Business in Harris County". Never before, in our thirty year history, has that mission been as critical as it is today. Large or small, all of our businesses have felt the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. To quote Georgia Chamber President, Chris Clark, 'The health and safety of employees, customers and citizens is top priority for every American business and organization. In working with local, state and national partners, we will expedite recovery efforts and build a resilient and stronger economy.' The formation of the Resiliency and Recovery Taskforce is a pro-active approach to serving not only our members, but non-members as well, by providing relevant and up to date resources and information to the businesses and citizens of Harris County”.
