Troup County School System Announces Superintendent Resignation
Wednesday, August 15th, 2018
Dr. R. Cole Pugh resigned from Troup County School System as Superintendent effective immediately. Dr. Roy Nichols, former TCSS Superintendent, will serve as Interim.
Dr. Nichols said, “I am here to work with employees and the Board. I believe it is important that the Interim Superintendent not be a candidate for the job. I look forward to guiding the TCSS while keeping the needs of our students, employees, families, and community as my highest priority.”
Dr. Nichols is familiar with TCSS, having led the district as Superintendent from 1999 to 2004. He has 25 years of Superintendent experience which includes positions in Marietta, Mobile, and Norfolk school systems. A long standing resident of the Troup County community, Dr. Nichols graciously accepted the challenge of leading the school district through the transitional period.
While the Board accepted Dr. Pugh’s resignation at the beginning of the new term, they noted plans are in place for a successful school year. Kirk Hancock, Chairman of the Board, stated, “We are appreciative of Dr. Pugh’s tenure. He led our district through some of the toughest times this school system has seen. He laid a solid foundation and we want to build on that. Moving forward, we will be looking for a dynamic leader to take us to the next level.”
