The Troup County Board of Education finalized both the resignation agreement for Dr. Cole Pugh and contract for the school system’s interim superintendent, Dr. Roy Nichols. Nichols accepted the position on Monday, August 13th after Pugh's resignation.

According to the contract, the Board agreed to pay Pugh $152,891 which is the remaining salary for one-year of his contract. Nichols has contracted for a pro-rated salary of $70,906 based on several factors; including the temporary / part-time nature of his appointment, the number of hours worked, how long he remains in the position of interim superintendent, and Teacher Retirement System restrictions on earnings.

During his first remarks to the Board on Monday, Nichols stated he has no intention of remaining in the position for a long period of time. He expressed his desire to guide the Board and school system through the process of procuring a search firm and coordinating the activities required to engage in the selection of a new Superintendent.
