Rep. Mark Newton: Why Supporting Foster Youth is an Economic Imperative for Georgia
Thursday, October 2nd, 2025
State Representative Mark Newton of Augusta has long been an advocate for Georgia’s most vulnerable youth—and as the sponsor of the Fostering Success Act, he’s helping transform how the state supports young adults aging out of foster care.
Each year, hundreds of these youth enter adulthood without the stability of family, housing, or financial support. The Fostering Success Act offers a powerful solution by allowing Georgia businesses and individual taxpayers to redirect their state taxes to fund critical wraparound services, including housing, education, transportation, counseling, and healthcare.
Rep. Newton sees this as both a moral responsibility and an economic opportunity. By investing in young people who are ready to contribute to Georgia’s workforce, the program strengthens communities, reduces long-term public costs, and helps build a more resilient economy. With the program now expanded to support even more youth— including those who’ve experienced the juvenile justice system—there’s never been a better time to get involved.
