YMCA of Coastal Georgia Continues to Offer Community Services Amid Power Outages

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, September 30th, 2024

As power restoration efforts continue across the region, the YMCA of Coastal Georgia remains committed to supporting the community. Several branches are now open and providing essential services, including charging stations, showers, and cool, comfortable spaces for those affected by ongoing outages. Today, the Statesboro, Guyton, Golden Isles, Tybee Island, and Richmond Hill YMCAs will be open to both members and the public with limited hours, offering a safe place to recharge and regroup.

"We understand how challenging the past few days have been for many in our community, and we're doing everything we can to assist during this time," said Joel Smoker, CEO of YMCA of Coastal Georgia. "As power is restored to more areas, we are evaluating conditions daily to ensure the safety of our facilities and will provide updates regarding additional branch openings."

In addition to these efforts, YMCA leadership is actively assessing the status of childcare services for the upcoming week. An announcement regarding childcare and other programming will be made as information becomes available. Updates on branch reopenings and services will continue to be shared on a day-by-day basis, with decisions hopefully made by 10 a.m. each morning.

We will continue to update our website (ymcaofcoastalga.org) and social media channels as soon as information is available and decisions are made.

As of today, Sunday, September 29, the following YMCA of Coastal Georgia branches are open and offering community services:

  • Statesboro YMCA: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges as a community. Please stay safe, and we will continue to provide updates as conditions change.
