Georgia DOT Awards Four Contracts for Construction Projects in West Central Georgia

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced it awarded contracts for four new construction projects in the West Central Georgia region. The projects were advertised on April 19, bids were received on May 17 and contracts were awarded to the lowest qualified bidders on May 31, 2019.

The projects are:

Butts, Henry, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, Talbot, Taylor and Upson Counties: the project involves rumble strip upgrades at various locations. The contract was awarded to Peek Pavement Marking, LLC, based in Columbus, Georgia, for $1.5 million. It is anticipated that the project will be complete in summer of 2020.

Dooly County: the project involves the resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation of of 5.21 miles of Calhoun Road (CR 215) from the Pinehurst city limits to Taylor Gin Road. The contract was awarded to The Scruggs Company, based in Hahira, Georgia for $351,000. It is anticipated that the project will be complete by late spring of 2020.

Harris County: the project involves the construction of a bridge and approaches on Fortson Road (CR 386) over Standing Boy Creek. The contract was awarded to Baldwin Paving Company and Southern Concrete Construction Co., Inc., based in Marietta, Georgia and Albany, Georgia respectively, for $2.31 million. It is anticipated that the project will be complete by summer of 2020.

Spalding County: the project involves upgrades to signage and pavement markings on various county roads. The contract was awarded to Mid-State Construction & Striping and Southern Concrete Construction, Co., Inc., based in Perry, Georgia and Albany, Georgia respectively, for $300,000. It is anticipated that the project will be complete in summer of 2020.

The projects were four of 28 total construction projects contracted statewide on May 31, 2019. The contracted amount statewide totaled $59,092,445. 

The May 31 awards bring the total for construction contracts in Fiscal Year 2019 to $670 million statewide. Fiscal Year 2019 began July 1, 2018.
